Bunaken Island was absolutely beautiful, at least the parts we saw. The village and the homes are kept with pride, and the people, as everywhere in Indonesia, very friendly.

Most people go to Bunaken to dive, so the resorts there are mostly 'inclusive' with lodgings and three meals. We stayed at Bunaken Village Resort, in a lovely cottage with a big deck and hammock. Meals were served in an open dining area, where all the guests sat down to eat at a table together. The resort had a nice little pool The inn is run by Jochem and his wife Angelina. Jochem is originally from Holland, and Angelina is from Java. They are expecting their first baby, and poor tiny Angelina is only 7 months pregnant along with an uncomfortably HUGE belly! We hope for the very best for them with the new baby!

We also met Vim & Corry, a couple from Holland, who are frequent travelers, and had some great stories to share. They are retired now, so they travel as much as they can, as the list of places still to visit is long!!! We wish them long lives, good health, and happy travels. I hope that our paths will meet again!

We had heard from diving friends that Sulawesi was a great Diving destination, and I must say, it is without a doubt the most incredible diving that we have ever done! Not a lot of BIG stuff in the places we dove, although we did see a few sharks and some HUGE sea turtles. The sheer volume & variety of corals, anemones, fish, and strange 'critters' was astounding.

And David, here is one for you, we saw a bright yellow frog fish actually moving!!! We watched him sort of waddle along the wall for a few feet by sort of gripping the wall with his stubby little fins and moving himself along. It was a very exciting find. When OPOS, our dive master told the guys back at the shop, they didn't believe him! For those of you who have never seen a frog fish (or angler fish as they are sometimes called) they pretty much just sit like a bump on a log in the same place, blending in with background, and are very difficult to see. Often, they will stay right there in the same place for weeks or months, so seeing one actually moving from one place to another is indeed rare! (I know, we divers are a bit weird, the things we get excited about!)

For both friends and strangers who may have found this post, we highly recommended BUNAKEN VILLAGE RESORT for both diving and relaxing, if you happen to be heading to Sulawesi, Indonesia. Beautiful, clean, relaxing, & the greatest staff ever!

Wir waren dieses Mal zu Fünft auf Bunaken und haben im Vorfeld ganz bewusst die schöne Anlage von Angelina und Jochem gewählt.Einerseits hat sie absolut europäischen Standard und andererseits ist sie klein, familiär geführt und überschaubar. Den Reiz macht die grüne Gartenanlage und der kleine Pool aus. In der Zeit vom 16.09.2008 bis 04.10.2008 haben wir noch die Trockenzeit erwischt und jeden Tag die Sonne genießen können. Wir können nur allen Interessierten diese Anlage empfehlen, weil sie sowohl Ruhe als auch Unterhaltung bietet. Es fehlt an nichts. Das Hotelteam kümmert sich rührend um seine Gäste und die Küche ist kulinarisch TOP. Wir sind mit Wehmut wieder in unsere hektische Heimat zurück gekehrt. Tauchen ist nachwievor sehr reizvoll, der für mich schönste Platz war eindeutig Timur II.
Es wäre schön, wenn diese Anlage durch eine "Mund zu Mund Propaganda " ihre Auslastung hätte und so den Leuten dort ein gesichertes Einkommen garantiert. So wäre es sicherlich langfristig möglich, dass Jochem eine eigenständige Tauchbasis aufbauen kann. Dieser Urlaub war eine echte Wohltat und ich habe großen Respekt vor der Leistung, die Angelina, Jochem und ihr Team innerhalb von zwei Jahren hier auf die Beine gestellt haben. Ein Aufenthalt ist uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen.

In July 2008 we have been to Bunaken Village Resort for the third time in three years and once again we had a wonderful time.
Even we dont dive, there was always something to do. Off course we did go snorkeling along the most beautiful coral and colored fish all over the world just in front of BVR. We also just hanged around a little bit on the resort and had contact with quests from all over the world. If it was getting to hot we jumped in the one and only swimming pool on Bunaken; we walked around the island and also went to Manado to do some shopping.
Every day during our stay we had a very good and various breakfast, lunch ánd dinner. Now that we are back in Holland we are missing our daily Bintang beer!

Jochem, Angelina and all their nice and friendly staff gave us also thís year the idea how a perfect holiday should be and they are still working very hard to make BVR even better than it is all ready.

Thanks for everything and really hope to see everybody again next year

Hallo Angelina und Jochen,

nochmals vielen Dank für 3 schöne Wochen in eurem Resort. Ein nochmaliges dankeschön auch an euer Personal das immer freundlich und hilfsbereits war. Die Küche ist hervorragend und der schöne Pool lädt so richtig zum relaxen ein. Auch das Tauchgebiet ist einmalig und wir konnten vom relaxtenTauchgang bis zum extremen Strömungstauchgang alles erleben.
Es bleibt die Erinnerung an einen schönen Platz, wo es sich lohnt zurückzukommen.

Dear Angelina and Jochem,

We were so happy to be able to come back to Bunaken Village this year again after our first visit in August 2007 together with our daughter Asa. And of course we are really longing to come back in 2009 again. Bunaken Village is a perfect place for a holiday. Excellent food, clean and beautiful accomodation, very friendly staff, wonderful diving and snorkelling opportunities. The atmosphere is really relaxed and familiar. And you two is the perfect couple to run this place!

We do hope to see you in 2009 again.

I found Bunaken Village from the tour-guide book, it is recommended as a well-rated new resort. And I found out it was true. Beautiful view, delicious food, nice and helpful staff, and of course Ms. Angelina is the top. I'd like to come again next year.

We were enjoying so much in Bunaken Village. Bunaken Village is such a friendly resort, always accomodates our needs and wants. From the start when booking, pick us up from and to airport early in the morning, good food, and friendly staff. Thank you for the great hospitality. Angelina is a perfect host. For sure we will come back!

Wat een fantastische vakantie hebben wij bij jullie beleefd!! Al is het al weer even geleden dat we bij jullie zijn geweest, nog vaak denken wij met veel plezier terug aan afgelopen oktober/november (2007). Jullie hebben op dat verre Indonesië een prachtig resort neergezet, waar het echt genieten is.
Een prachtige omgeving waar je even helemaal tot rust kan komen en waar je kunt genieten van de geweldige onderwaterwereld. Voor ons absoluut de mooiste duiken die we tot nu toe hebben gemaakt.
We zijn dan ook zeker van plan om in de toekomst nog eens bij jullie langs te komen. Bedankt voor de gastvrijheid en geweldig services. Mede door jullie, het personeel en natuurlijk het prachtige land en het heerlijke weer is onze vakantie onvergetelijk geweest.
